BLACKBUCK HUNTING IN ARGENTINA
Blackbuck
Description
The blackbuck is an elegant, agile, and extremely fast antelope native to the Indian subcontinent. It was successfully introduced to Argentina, where it adapted perfectly to the open fields of La Pampa.
Males are easily recognized by their dark coat with white contrasts and spiral horns exceeding 50 cm (20 in), making them one of the most impressive and desired trophies in big game hunting.
Weighing between 35 and 55 kg (75–120 lb), their sharp eyesight and nervous behavior make them a challenging and rewarding hunt.
They mainly inhabit open plains but can also move through light woodlands.
Hunting at Hunting La Paz
Across our 20,000+ hectares of free-range land in La Pampa, blackbucks roam in large herds.
The hunting style is spot and stalk on foot, advancing across plains, dunes, and low brush until reaching the shooting distance.
Dominant males defend their territories and stand out clearly within the groups, adding excitement and realism to every hunt.
Because they remain in open fields, success requires patience, stealth, and good terrain reading for an accurate shot.
Recommended guns & ammo
- Light to medium calibers: .243 Win, .25-06 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win, .30-06.
- Optics: fine reticle and high brightness, ideal for long-distance shots (100–250 m typical).
- Accessories: a bipod or light rest is recommended for greater stability in open terrain.
